Poem: The Shade of the China Tree

Generosa (Generous), 2013 - Luciano Ventrone (b. 1942)
oil on linen

Like those biblical lovers: scythe and ribbon,

 we can cut and tie

 the postulated yet hidden

 language of your

 blasphemous intention-

let those ‘children of darkness’

receive their recognition!

A face first of literature (to be read)

becomes a body

where song departs from  (silence)

The grief, reduced to simple numeracy

Toll, date, piling.

The exit wounds

bloom

into fruit of a future

that reduces to an unhappened memory.

You forget even in destruction,

we reverberate in being.
